What Makes Change and Growth So Difficult?

What makes change and growth so difficult?

The discomfort that it forces us to face.

Our bodies are programmed to meet change and growth with resistance due to the sheer threat to breaking the safety that it has always known or the small thread that it thinks it’s holding onto. That resistance can show up as physical discomfort, distraction, procrastination, self-doubt, self-sabotage, perfectionism, seeking the familiar, keeping us stagnant in what we know.

The beauty is that there are so many tools that we get to use to ground into and create safety in our bodies. There are exercises we can move through to turn doubt and intrusive thoughts into mantras of motivation that will keep us moving through to the aligned actioned that we are worthy of taking.

But no one really tells you just how icky the discomfort can be to sit with, to move through. Perhaps it’s difficult to really put words or a description to the experience of nausea, nervousness, or confusion that can be felt as we grieve the old version of ourselves, the familiar relationships, the outgrown ways of being, or the predictable experiences that we had hoped for.

What about tools or rituals for honouring what has to end in order for us to get to do what we’re being called towards?

What about allowing ourselves to reset, recover and rest?

It takes trust. It takes surrender.

And what I know to be true is that surrender creates more space for us to be with ourselves… to expand our spiritual practice of creating even more space to grow even more safety in our bodies… to ground into the present moment… to trust that everything is happening for us even if we can’t see the growth just yet.

The secret is that we get to sit back, relax, and trust that we can relieve ourselves of micromanaging habits the magic that is already happening all around us and for us.

But even though the truth is that we get to experience all of this… the discomfort still exists. It’s all intertwined in a spiral of growth that may make us feel queasy but is so incredibly worth exploring.

If ready this makes you a little nauseous… it’s likely that your body knows that you’re curious about transforming your life, surrendering, and trusting yourself more but is trying to keep you safe from the transformation you are capable of experiencing.

Our subconscious minds and our bodies always know. And for a long time I wanted to believe that all we need is to do the work to heal and build capacity for more within our subconscious minds so that we can take action and implement strategy from a place of self-belief, and what I wasn’t fully recognising was just how involved our body is.

It’s the mind-body-heart-intuition connection that we get to build within hypnosis, within our daily practices, within the life we create for ourselves.

We just need to know which tools to use to create more comfort, more trust, more surrender.

If you’re curious to move through the resistance, to build your mind-body-heart-intuition connection… let’s chat!

Lots of love,

💕 Lauren
